Features New in 12.0

  • Rejected Messages Search: The Console provides an interface to search for messages or connections rejected by system settings or Connection Policy.
  • SQM Security: By default, the SQM website requires SSL (HTTPS) connections for login security. See Knowledgebase article Q21260.
  • TLS Certificate rule change: Default rules no longer enforce a check for the TLS “Client Authentication” EKU. Customers must update pre-existing rules. See Knowledgebase article Q21258.

  • Branding: The product is rebranded for LevelBlue.

Features New in 11.3

  • Rule Condition Negation: More rule conditions now include an option for “is/is not matched”.

Features New in 11.2

  • D-Fence phishing detection: MailMarshal incorporates a new proprietary Machine Learning based phishing detection component.
  • SMTP TLS Reporting support: MailMarshal supports reporting of potential problems with TLS connections using the standard described in RFC-8460.
  • Entra Connector support: MailMarshal can retrieve group information directly from Entra ID.

Features New in 11.1

  • ARC-SEAL support: MailMarshal can extend the ARC-SEAL chain for a message.
  • Message Properties capture: Additional information about messages is captured to the database.
  • SQL Encryption: Encrypted connections to the SQL Server are supported.

  • Policy print functionality: The Console includes the ability to generate a plain language summary of email policy.
  • Rule copy functionality: The Console includes the ability to copy or move a rule to another policy group.
  • Operating System Support: Windows Server 2025 is supported.

Features New in 10.2.0

  • Single Sign On: MailMarshal supports SAML based Single Sign On for the Management Console.
  • User Account Audit: The Console allows review of user account creation, permission settings, and login activity.

Features New in 10.1.0

System Requirements

The following system requirements are the minimum levels required for a typical installation of the MailMarshal Array Manager and selected database.
  • A full discussion of requirements for all supported configurations is available in the MailMarshal User Guide. See also Knowledgebase article Q11358.

Upgrade Instructions

Please review the MailMarshal User Guide before upgrading. MailMarshal 12.0 supports a direct upgrade from MailMarshal 10.1.0 and above. If your installed version does not support direct upgrade, you can upgrade in steps.

Upgrade Preview

A standalone tool is available to check prerequisites and potential configuration issues before upgrade. See the product download page.

Database Prerequisites

  • SQL 2017 is the minimum SQL Server version supported.

Upgrading a Single Server

To upgrade a single MailMarshal server from any version supporting direct upgrade, install the new version on the existing server. You do not need to uninstall your existing version. The database will be upgraded in place, if necessary.

Upgrading an Array of Servers

You must upgrade each server by logging on locally.

Upgrading a Database

In the MailMarshal Server Tool, if you select a database that can be upgraded (version 8.2.3 or later 8.2.X), you will be given the option to upgrade and use the database.

Importing an 8.X Configuration Backup

After installing MailMarshal 11.X, you can import a configuration backup from version 8.2.3 or later 8.X version.
  1. Convert the backup to the 11.X backup format (zip file) using the MMConvConfig command line tool found in the MailMarshal 11.X installation folder.
  2. Import the converted configuration zip file using the Restore function in the Management Interface, or the MMExportConfig command line tool.
For full information about these tools see the User Guide.

Upgrading From Older Versions

To upgrade from a MailMarshal version prior to 10.1.0, except 8.3.2, first upgrade to 10.1.0. For version 8.3.2, first upgrade to 10.2.5. Full details about upgrading from older versions can be found in the documentation for the target version.

Notes on Upgrading

The information in this document is current as of the date of publication. To check for any later information, please see Knowledgebase article Q21257.
Read the notes for all versions newer than your installed version. This list only includes information about version 10.1 and above. For upgrade changes in earlier versions, see the release notes of each version.
  • 12.0.0 Operating System Support: Windows Server 2016 is no longer supported. This OS version exits extended support from Microsoft soon.
  • 12.0.0 SQM security changes: Security settings for the SQM site are enhanced. SSL is required for Forms authentication by default, and some legacy passwords must be updated. See Knowledgebase article Q21260.
  • 12.0.0 SpamProfiler URL change: The URL used by SpamProfiler to retrieve signature updates has changed. Ensure that all required URLs can be reached over HTTPS from processing nodes. See Knowledgebase article Q20190.
  • 11.2.0 BTM URL changes: The default URLs for Blended Threats scanning and statistics retrieval have changed. Ensure that the stats URL can be reached from the Array Manager. The previous URLs are still available to support legacy versions and links.
    • Scanning: http://urlscanner.mailmarshal.cloud and https://urlscanner.mailmarshal.cloud
    • Statistics retrieval: https://stats.btm.protection.mailmarshal.cloud
  • 10.1.0 Unsafe Legacy Renegotiation: Customers who installed the “unsafe legacy renegotiation” hotfix for TLS with release 10.0.7 must apply a new configuration setting. This setting ensures the same behavior as the previous hotfix. To maintain the behavior, apply the setting before upgrading to 10.1. See Knowledgebase article Q21216.

Uninstalling

MailMarshal can be installed in a variety of scenarios. For full information on uninstalling MailMarshal from a production environment, see the MailMarshal User Guide. To uninstall a trial installation on a single computer:
  1. Close all instances of the MailMarshal Management Console website and helper applications such as Server Tool.
  2. Use Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel to remove MailMarshal.
  3. Use Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel to remove additional components you may have installed, such as Web components or the Marshal Reporting Console.
  4. If you have installed any components (such as the Web components) on other computers, uninstall them.
  5. If you have installed SQL Express specifically to support MailMarshal and no other applications are using it, uninstall SQL Express.
